A family in Kentucky is in mourning after a mother and two of her children died in a head-on collision just after going to a birthday party (https://people.com/human-interest/kentucky-mom-2-kids-killed-car-crash-after-birthday-celebration/).
Christina Diaz and her children–daughter Mackenzie and sons Joshua and Noah–had just celebrated her 44th birthday when they were involved in the fatal accident. The only one to survive the crash was 11-year-old Noah, who is currently recovering from his injuries in an area hospital.
According to Kentucky State Police (KSP), the other driver in the crash, Synthia Armstrong, also perished, but her 7-week-old passenger survived.
This tragic accident happened in the early evening near North Dixie Highway in the City of Muldraugh. The preliminary investigation by the KSP has determined that 52-year-oild Armstrong was going south when she crossed the center line with her Chevrolet Equinox and went into oncoming traffic, colliding with the Cadillac CTS Diaz was driving.
Both of the drivers and Mackenize, just 12 years old, were pronounced dead at the accident site. 14-year-old Joshua was rushed to an area hospital but died of his injuries there.
On the GoFundMe page of the Diaz family, a relative shared that young Noah recalled the moments after he woke up in the car after the crash and had to escape it as it burned. According to the relative, the young boy said no one else in the car would wake up, and the smoke in the car was so bad that he could not breathe so he had to climb out using the back window.
At the moment, officials are not sure why Armstrong crossed over the median, resulting in the deadly collision. The incident is currently under an investigation being headed by KSP Trooper Scott Wheatley.
Currently, family and friends of Diaz are trying to raise donations to help the family cope with the burial and funeral expenses and to help support Noah. On the family’s fundraising page, there are regular health updates for Noah, who recently underwent a successful surgery to undo some of the damage from the crash. He is expected to be able to return home and be with his family shortly.

In just the blink of an eye, entire families have their lives turned upside down. It can be even worse when the cause of the accident isn’t immediately clear, as in this particular case.
