In today’s society the fraudulent activities that plague our economy are growing increasingly relentless and numerous as the stipulation to safeguard and secure one’s personal documents and information are becoming more accessible under the disguise that our most valuable information is protected by personal identification numbers, security questions and passwords. Then there are the added layers of protection as we venture further into the 21st century and advance technologically i.e. verifying that humans are not, in fact, robots by visually identifying all photos with bicycles as if the motherboard of a robotic entity would crash and burn by the sheer complexity of such trivia; but let’s consider the unsolved mysteries of human error. With all things heading in the direction of convenience and the demand to virtually complete tasks with the click of a button, we often leave tasks undone and loose ends untied, particularly, our bad habits with manually written tasks like abbreviating commonly used phrases and shortening numerical dates. Imagine writing a check to an employee, graduating family member, or to anyone that you intended and have thus given access and permission to your personal funds and that check having been mismanaged and ultimately ending up in the wrong hands. Now further imagine providing anyone that is not you with the financial advantage and accessibility to your account(s) all because we have successfully conditioned ourselves to take shortcuts and create short hands and do not ‘feel’ like thoroughly, verbally and completely writing out August 1, 2020, by instead writing 8/1/20 and unknowingly leaving your check open-ended for john doe to come behind you and take the time you forfeited in that moment and pencil in 8/1/2021…2031…2041 for decades to come and you having technically signed off on the transaction. These are the technical innuendos we have created for ourselves in poor attempt to leave paper trails for the sake of providing tangible proof, even if electronic, that robots have no use for. The rabbit hole goes a lot deeper when you acknowledge the oversights of not having personal information time sensitive and stamped. When you consider the sophistication and attention to detail required to perform such a tedious act, it also opens the window as to whom and what caliber of individuals can participate in such trickery pulling the attention away from pedestrians, criminals and offenders and pointing the finger at bankers, charity and foundation heads and treasurers of any governing entity, hence, all individuals given the power and position to designate enormous lumps of cash to anonymous groups. New age dilemmas such as these blur the lines of defining a law-abiding citizen, not to mention, cripple a potential victim’s ability to enforce the law. The possibilities are fracturing when we realize we have rendered ourselves compliant and susceptible to a host of applications, contracts and binding agreements that survive and thrive on the basis of tenure, extension and duration. Retirement, and wage garnishment are examples of time scaled events that have expected time frames but consist of terms and conditions that can be negotiated within the scheme of law. Should you or anyone you know be a victim of this form of fraud, contact a criminal defense attorney, such as from The Lynch Law Group, as soon as possible.
